Tampa's medical landscape, and the practices we build for

Tampa General Hospital on Davis Islands is an academic medical center, the primary teaching hospital for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and the only Level I trauma center on Florida's west coast. Moffitt Cancer Center keeps most of its research facilities on the University of South Florida campus in north Tampa, beside USF Health's Morsani Center for Advanced Healthcare, and AdventHealth Tampa's main campus is on East Fletcher Avenue. BayCare's St. Joseph's Hospital and St. Joseph's Children's Hospital share a campus on West Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

ACS serves independent practices outside those systems, above all specialty groups with two or more sites, 26 to 50 staff and 30-plus computers whose owner or administrator wants one accountable IT partner and the price up front.

  • Dental and orthodontic groups: every imaging PC and operatory built the same way (dental IT support).
  • Dermatology and med spas: encrypted clinical photos (med spa HIPAA).
  • Behavioral health: video visits and locked-down therapy notes (behavioral health IT).
  • Optometry and physical therapy: exam-lane instruments and shared PCs (eye care IT).

What ACS runs for a Tampa practice

ACS is a national, remote-first IT department you share rather than staff: a named Technical Account Manager and a pod of dedicated technicians assigned to your practice learn its systems. Instead of recruiting and training in-house IT staff, you draw on fractional IT and cybersecurity experts, available when you need them, 24/7 subject to your support plan; project work is scheduled onsite. Success means proactive fixes before staff notice, support tailored to your practice, and the IT and cyber worry gone so you can focus on patients.

Florida law on top of HIPAA

Three rulebooks reach a Hillsborough County exam room, and each lands on the IT setup.

  • 45 CFR 164.308, the HIPAA Security Rule: analyse and manage risks to electronic patient information, and get a BAA before any vendor touches it.
  • Fla. Stat. 501.171, the Florida Information Protection Act of 2014: a patient's name with a diagnosis, treatment or health insurance number is personal information needing reasonable protection. After a breach, an IT agent has 10 days to tell the practice; patients hear within 30 days (notice under HIPAA's federal rules also counts), and the Department of Legal Affairs is told when 500 or more Floridians are affected. Disposal means shredding or erasing until unreadable.
  • Fla. Stat. 456.057: records leave only with written patient authorization or a listed exception; records owners keep written security procedures and train staff on them; a closing or relocating practitioner must notify patients.

Towns we cover around Tampa

Inside city limits we cover downtown, the Westshore Business District, Davis Islands, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and the Fletcher Avenue area near USF. Elsewhere in Hillsborough County the list runs to Temple Terrace, Plant City and the unincorporated communities of Brandon, Carrollwood, Riverview, Bloomingdale, Valrico, Seffner and Apollo Beach. In Pinellas County, whose seat is Clearwater, we cover Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

How onsite works from our San Jose HQ

We support practices in the Tampa Bay area remotely, with onsite work as needed. Patches, alerts, sign-in fixes and most tickets are handled remotely; a second location, a server-closet move or a workstation rollout becomes a project with onsite time booked.

Every practice gets a named Technical Account Manager. Smaller practices share a specialist pod that looks after a handful of clients; larger groups get a dedicated pod.

Five questions for any Tampa IT provider

  1. Do they put a BAA in place first? Patient data should never reach a vendor that has not signed one.
  2. Can they explain Florida's 10-day agent clock? Fla. Stat. 501.171(6)(a) starts it when your IT vendor determines a breach or has reason to believe one occurred.
  3. Is there a risk analysis to look at? Ask for a redacted one before you sign.
  4. Is the price list public? Then you can price your own headcount before any meeting.
  5. Who holds the tenant and backups? The practice should, from day one, so leaving stays simple.

Tampa healthcare IT: questions practices ask

Who provides HIPAA-compliant IT support for medical practices in Tampa?

ACS does: a HIPAA-first MSP that signs a BAA, supports Hillsborough County practices remotely with onsite work as needed, and prices plans per endpoint.

How much should a Tampa practice with 25 staff expect to pay for managed IT?

Twenty-five computers on Core IT come to about $2,750 a month; Proactive IT runs $4,375 and Complete IT $7,375, before add-ons. That is arithmetic on our published pricing, not a quote.

Is ACS local to Tampa, or will support come from California?

Our headquarters is San Jose, California; there is no Tampa address. Tampa Bay practices get remote support first, onsite work as needed, and one named Technical Account Manager.

Which Florida laws apply to a Tampa medical practice's IT on top of HIPAA?

Two, mainly: the Florida Information Protection Act of 2014 (Fla. Stat. 501.171) for data protection and breach notice, and Fla. Stat. 456.057 for patient-record confidentiality and security policies.

Will an IT company in Tampa sign a business associate agreement?

We sign BAAs with healthcare clients. Under 45 CFR 164.308(b)(1), handing electronic patient information to a vendor requires satisfactory assurances first; the BAA records them.

Will an outside IT team handle the charting and imaging systems our Tampa clinic runs?

List them on the free call and we confirm coverage for each; from Proactive IT upward, vendor tickets leave your front desk for your pod.

Can one IT provider look after practice sites in Tampa, Brandon and St. Petersburg?

Yes. Multi-site specialty groups are the core fit: one network standard, sign-in and security baseline everywhere, plus onsite visits when a site needs hands.

What happens if a Tampa clinic's systems fail at night or over a weekend?

After-hours emergency support is available. On the free call, ask how a Westshore or Brandon site reaches it under the plan you choose.

Keep exploring: Florida managed IT services, nationwide remote IT support, per-endpoint pricing and all locations.

Keep your Tampa practice secure and running.
