Buyer's Guide / 2026
Best Managed IT Services for Healthcare Practices (2026)
For owners and administrators comparing managed IT: four service models with what each costs, then seven providers described fairly, with multi-location groups of 26-50 staff in mind.
Why choosing managed IT for a healthcare practice is different
An IT provider that maintains or transmits patient records for you is a HIPAA business associate, so this is a compliance decision as much as a support one.
The bar is higher
Imaging and treatment-room computers cannot sit idle during clinic, every office needs the same sign-in, and auditors ask for records. A purely reactive model leaves that paperwork with you.

This guide is published by Atlantic Computer Systems, and we put ourselves at the top because healthcare IT is our focus. We describe every other provider fairly from public information. If another firm here fits your practice better, we would rather you find the right partner. Verify services, coverage, and pricing directly before you sign.
Comparing managed IT services for healthcare practices: four models and what each costs
The model sets who does the work, how you pay and who keeps the compliance records. Prices are ACS's published plans; other providers quote their own.
| Model | Who does the work | How you pay | What it costs | Fits best |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fully managed, healthcare-focused | The provider runs help desk, devices, security, backups and compliance records | A flat monthly fee per endpoint | At ACS, Proactive IT is $175 and Complete IT $295 per endpoint per month | Groups of 26-50 staff with no IT employee |
| Co-managed | Your IT person keeps daily support; the provider adds monitoring and security | Per endpoint, for the provider's share | Scoped once the split is agreed; less per endpoint than fully managed | Practices with one IT employee |
| Break-fix | Whoever answers when something breaks; nobody owns prevention | By the hour or by the job | Low in a quiet month, unpredictable after a failure | Very small offices that accept the risk |
| National multi-industry MSP | A large desk serving many industries, sometimes through franchises | Tiered bundles or per endpoint | Quoted after an assessment; check base-tier gaps | Groups wanting one vendor across many states |

Seven providers worth shortlisting
Grouped by model; each summary comes from the provider's own website.
Atlantic Computer Systems (ACS)
Atlantic Computer Systems (ACS) is a HIPAA-first healthcare MSP headquartered in San Jose, California. We run fully managed and co-managed IT remote-first, with onsite work as needed, available 24/7 subject to your support plan. We sign BAAs with healthcare clients. Every practice gets a named Technical Account Manager. Smaller practices share a specialist pod that looks after a handful of clients; larger groups get a dedicated pod.
Best for: multi-location specialty groups of 26-50 staff and 30+ computers that want prices up front.
DAS Health
DAS Health says it is built exclusively for healthcare and senior living. Its site lists managed IT, cybersecurity and compliance, and EHR-related services for single sites through multi-state groups, plus a page for ophthalmology practices.
Best for: practices wanting a healthcare-only firm with EHR-related services.
Abacus (Abacus Group and Medicus IT)
Abacus formed when Abacus Group merged with Medicus IT, a healthcare IT managed services provider, in July 2025. Its healthcare page addresses specialty providers and community health organizations, naming ophthalmology and optometry, dermatology, primary care and multi-site groups.
Best for: specialty practices and community health organizations, including multi-site groups.
CompassMSP
CompassMSP lists more than 25 U.S. locations. Its healthcare page names specialty medical practices, physician groups, ambulatory care and multi-location organizations, and it offers fully managed IT, co-managed IT and vCIO/vCISO advisory.
Best for: groups weighing fully managed against co-managed with one provider.
CMIT Solutions
CMIT Solutions is a national IT services franchise network. Its healthcare page names clinics, pediatric practices, dental offices and specialty providers, and individual locations publish their own healthcare pages, such as one for Springfield, Massachusetts.
Best for: practices that prefer a franchise location under a national brand.
Parachute
Parachute is a California managed IT provider listing seven locations, including San Francisco, San Jose and Sacramento. It publishes healthcare and HIPAA pages and assigns clients to service pods it calls a team within a team.
Best for: California practices wanting a named team model.
Triton Technologies
Triton Technologies lists managed IT and cybersecurity locations across Massachusetts, including Worcester and Boston, plus Connecticut, Rhode Island and Albany, New York. Its healthcare page targets practices preparing for HIPAA audits, and it offers a HIPAA security readiness check.
Best for: New England practices wanting a HIPAA audit focus.

Which kind of provider fits which practice
Match the model to your staffing. Dental-only IT firms are compared in our guide to IT companies for dental practices.
One standard across every office
Require one sign-in, device, backup and security standard at every site, one named account manager and written per-endpoint pricing. ACS's Complete IT plan, built for regulated practices, is one example.
Simple, but still covered
A smaller fully managed plan or a franchise location can work if backups, security monitoring and a signed BAA are included.
Co-managed keeps your expert
Co-managed IT keeps that person in charge and adds monitoring, security tools and cover for time off. See how co-managed IT works.
How to choose the best managed IT services for healthcare: the questions that matter
Ask every provider these. See also how to choose an IT company for a medical practice.
- Will you sign a Business Associate Agreement before onboarding? Right answer: yes, in writing. HIPAA treats an IT provider that handles patient data as a business associate.
- Who documents our HIPAA risk analysis? Right answer: they help write the analysis the Security Rule requires (45 CFR 164.308(a)(1)); start with a HIPAA risk assessment.
- Which practice-management and imaging systems do you support today? Right answer: yours, named on the call. See EHR and practice software support.
- What happens when a system fails mid-clinic? Right answer: a written escalation path to people who know your setup, evenings included.
- How do you keep several offices on one standard? Right answer: one documented setup, with new offices built as scheduled projects.
- Who owns the admin accounts and backups? Right answer: your practice does.
- Is pricing per endpoint and in writing? Right answer: yes, with licenses, hardware, projects and onsite visits listed separately.
What medical managed IT services cost: plan tiers compared
ACS publishes three per-endpoint plans; each includes everything in the one before it.
24/7 monitoring on every plan; 24/7 security monitoring by our in-house SOC (ACS Cyber, our cybersecurity division) on Complete IT.
| Plan | Per endpoint, per month | What it adds | Worked example (arithmetic on the list prices, not a quote) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core IT | Core IT: $110 | Device management, Microsoft 365 administration, help desk | A 30-computer practice on Core IT: about $3,300 a month |
| Proactive IT | Proactive IT: $175 | Remote access, email protection, cloud backup, vendor management | A 30-computer practice on Proactive IT: about $5,250 a month |
| Complete IT | Complete IT: $295 | HIPAA compliance, SOC threat detection, Zero-Trust, vCIO | A 30-computer practice on Complete IT: about $8,850 a month |
Licenses, hardware, projects, migrations and onsite visits are billed separately; a Solution Architect confirms the exact price.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between fully managed and co-managed IT for a practice?
Fully managed IT hands the whole job to the provider; co-managed IT keeps your in-house IT person in charge and adds the provider's monitoring, security tools and project help.
Is break-fix IT cheaper than managed IT for a small medical practice?
Only in a quiet month. Break-fix is paid by the hour or by the job, so nobody is paid to prevent problems, and the cost of an outage lands all at once.
How much do managed IT services cost per endpoint for a healthcare practice?
At ACS, Core IT is $110, Proactive IT $175 and Complete IT $295 per endpoint per month. Worked example (arithmetic, not a quote): a 28-computer, two-office practice on Complete IT: about $8,260 a month. See per-endpoint plan pricing.
What should a managed IT contract for a healthcare practice include?
A signed BAA, the systems covered, who owns the accounts and data, how backups are tested, what is billed separately, and how you leave with your data. See switching IT providers.
Should a practice choose a national MSP or a healthcare-specialist MSP?
Choose on fit, not size. A large multi-industry MSP brings scale; a healthcare specialist brings clinical-workflow knowledge and compliance work inside the plan.
How do I compare managed IT proposals from different providers?
Use one grid: price per endpoint for the same headcount, what each tier leaves out, extra charges, BAA help and exit terms. Our guide to what managed IT should cost a medical practice explains pricing models.
What red flags should a practice watch for in a managed IT proposal?
Refusing a BAA, a base tier without backups or security, hourly billing for routine work, unclear account ownership and no plan for failures during clinic. Ask how after-hours problems are handled. After-hours emergency support is available.
