Healthcare IT Companies: How to Choose One for Your Practice (2026)
A guide to healthcare IT companies for medical, dental and specialty practice owners, including multi-location groups of 26-50 staff: what the label means and nine providers compared fairly by region.
What healthcare IT companies are, and why a practice chooses differently
Search results for the term mix software makers, hospital consultancies and managed IT firms.
- EHR and practice-software vendors build and support the clinical and billing systems you license.
- Hospital and health-system IT firms run integration and staffing programs at enterprise scale.
- Managed IT providers (MSPs), healthcare-focused or generalist, run a practice's daily IT and security for a monthly fee. This guide compares them.
The bar is higher
Your IT partner handles patient data daily, on imaging workstations, exam rooms and multi-site sign-ins, so HIPAA expects a written risk analysis and a business associate agreement.

Nine healthcare IT service providers worth shortlisting
Grouped by region. Longer regional lists: the California medical practice guide and the Massachusetts dental guide.
Atlantic Computer Systems (ACS)
Atlantic Computer Systems (ACS) is a HIPAA-first healthcare MSP headquartered in San Jose, California. We sign BAAs with healthcare clients. We run SOC 2-aligned controls. Support is remote-first, and technicians come onsite as needed. Every practice gets a named Technical Account Manager. Smaller practices share a specialist pod that looks after a handful of clients; larger groups get a dedicated pod.
Best for: multi-location specialty groups of 26-50 staff and 30+ computers that want pricing up front.
Boston Networks
Boston Networks offers managed IT and cybersecurity for healthcare and medical organizations, plus a Massachusetts dental office page covering HIPAA guidance, security and backup. Addresses on its site: Boston, Stoneham and Franklin.
Best for: Greater Boston medical and dental offices.
Braver Technology Solutions
Braver Technology Solutions provides healthcare IT services in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, from Boston, Taunton and Providence addresses. Its healthcare page names multi-location dental groups, optometry, dermatology and behavioral health among many practice types.
Best for: practices with sites in both states.
Triton Technologies
Triton Technologies lists a Worcester, Massachusetts headquarters address and locations in Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York. Its healthcare page addresses practices preparing for HIPAA audits, including small dental practices and behavioral health.
Best for: New England practices preparing for an audit.
TruAdvantage
TruAdvantage lists San Jose headquarters and San Francisco office addresses and serves healthcare organizations across the Bay Area. Its pages for medical offices describe HIPAA risk assessments and staff HIPAA training, whatever the specialty.
Best for: medical offices around San Jose and San Francisco.
Parachute
Parachute lists seven California locations, from San Francisco and San Jose to Los Angeles and San Diego. Its site has healthcare and HIPAA compliance pages, and each client is placed in a service pod.
Best for: groups with offices in both Northern and Southern California.
Abacus (Abacus Group and Medicus IT)
In July 2025 Abacus Group and Medicus IT, a healthcare IT managed services firm, merged under the Abacus name. Its healthcare page serves specialty providers and community health organizations, from dentistry and ophthalmology to dermatology.
Best for: multi-site specialty groups wanting a national provider.
DAS Health
DAS Health describes itself as built only for healthcare and senior living; its services span managed IT, cybersecurity and compliance, and EHR-related work. Its site lists U.S. locations including Boston, Los Angeles and Tampa.
Best for: practices wanting one healthcare-only company.
CompassMSP
CompassMSP lists more than 25 U.S. locations, including West Hartford, Connecticut and New York City. Its healthcare page names specialty practices, physician groups and multi-location organizations, with fully managed and co-managed models.
Best for: larger groups, or co-managed IT.

Which kind of healthcare IT company fits which practice
Headcount and site count matter more than the logo.
Require one standard everywhere
Two or three offices with 30+ computers need one sign-in, backup and network standard, one account manager for all sites and per-endpoint pricing that scales per location. ACS is one provider set up this way.
Keep it simple and documented
A one-site practice of 10-20 people mainly needs a signed BAA, a yearly risk analysis, managed backups and a help desk that knows its software.
Look at co-managed IT
If an in-house technician handles the basics, co-managed IT adds monitoring, patching and HIPAA documentation without replacing that person.

How to shortlist healthcare IT providers: the questions that matter
Ask every company the same seven.
- Will you sign our BAA before you get access? Right answer: yes, in writing, before any account is set up.
- Who performs our risk analysis, and what do we keep? Right answer: a named person, yearly, with a written report; the Security Rule requires it (45 CFR 164.308(a)(1)). A HIPAA risk assessment is a sensible first project.
- Which practice-management, imaging and charting systems do you support today? Right answer: specifics, and how you work with each vendor.
- Who owns an outage that starts in the middle of a clinic day? Right answer: one written escalation path and one named owner until the fix is confirmed.
- Can you hold every site we run to one standard? Right answer: identical configuration and backup checks at every site.
- If we part ways, who holds the admin accounts and backups? Right answer: you do, documented and handed back on exit.
- Is pricing flat and written per endpoint? Right answer: yes, per plan, with extras listed in writing.

What healthcare IT services companies charge a practice
Our prices are published; ask every other company for theirs in writing.
ACS publishes three plans: Core IT at $110 per endpoint per month, Proactive IT at $175 per endpoint per month and Complete IT at $295 per endpoint per month; each includes everything in the one before it.
Worked example (arithmetic on the list prices, not a quote): a 38-computer group with two offices on Complete IT: $11,210 a month at $295 per endpoint.
Licenses, hardware, projects, migrations and onsite visits are billed separately; a Solution Architect confirms the exact price.

Healthcare IT companies: frequently asked questions
What does a healthcare IT company do for a medical practice?
It runs your daily technology for a monthly fee: computers, network, Microsoft 365, backups, security monitoring and the help desk. It also produces HIPAA documents such as the business associate agreement and the yearly risk analysis.
What is the difference between a healthcare IT company and an EHR vendor?
An EHR vendor builds and supports the clinical software you license. A healthcare IT company supports everything that software runs on: workstations, network, sign-ins, backups and security. We support the EHR and practice software you already use. Ask about yours.
Which healthcare IT companies work with small and mid-size practices?
Healthcare-focused MSPs and regional firms with a healthcare team usually fit practices of 10-50 staff. Every provider above states a healthcare focus on its own site.
What qualifications should a healthcare IT provider be able to show?
Evidence, not logos: a BAA it will sign, a sample risk analysis with patient data removed, written security controls and tested backup restores. We sign BAAs with healthcare clients. We work to SOC 2-aligned controls.
How many healthcare IT companies should a practice compare before choosing?
Three is usually enough: a healthcare-focused provider, a regional firm and, for several sites, a multi-state provider.
What do healthcare IT companies charge a practice per month?
Providers price differently, so compare written quotes. On the ACS pricing page, Core IT is $110, Proactive IT $175 and Complete IT $295 per endpoint per month. Worked example (arithmetic on the list prices, not a quote): a 32-computer practice on Proactive IT: $5,600 a month at $175 per endpoint.
Can one healthcare IT company support offices in different states?
Yes, if it works remotely first and plans onsite visits. Headquartered in San Jose, we support practices across the Bay Area and serve Greater Boston, New England and Houston remotely, with onsite work as needed. State rules, such as Massachusetts' 201 CMR 17.00 and California's CMIA, apply on top of HIPAA.
