Who we serve in Cambridge
Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Beth Israel Lahey Health, stands at 330 Mount Auburn Street. Cambridge Health Alliance, formed in 1996 from The Cambridge Hospital and Somerville Hospital, runs The Cambridge Hospital at 1493 Cambridge Street. Harvard, MIT and Kendall Square's biotech and startup companies are here too. We name them as landmarks, not clients.
We build for the independent practices around them: specialty groups and clinics of 26 to 50 staff and 30 or more computers, often across two or three sites, whose owner or administrator wants IT, security and HIPAA handled by one team. In practice that means orthodontic and dental groups with several sites, dermatology practices and med spas, behavioral health and physical therapy clinics, and optometry offices.
Referral letters, scanned charts and portal messages cross a Cambridge front desk all day, so we keep that path encrypted, logged and documented.
What we run for your practice
Patients stay the focus because we carry the IT and cyber worry. As a national, remote-first company, we pair each Cambridge office with a named Technical Account Manager and a pod of dedicated technicians who learn its systems and keep support proactive and personalized. That pod gives you fractional IT and cybersecurity experts instead of recruiting and training your own team; they are there when you need them (24/7 subject to support plan), and project work is scheduled onsite.
Managed IT & helpdesk
Patching, monitoring and Microsoft 365 administration, plus a phone, email or chat helpdesk.
Cybersecurity
Device protection on every workstation and exam-room PC; advanced email filtering from Proactive IT.
HIPAA & 201 CMR 17.00
A documented risk analysis, written policies and a Massachusetts WISP, ready for an auditor.
Practice software
We support the EHR and practice software you already use. Ask about yours.
Cloud & backup
Automatic backup of files and email, so ransomware or a stolen laptop need not mean lost records.
Switching providers
A documented handover of admin accounts, licences, backups and the notes nobody wrote down.
What healthcare IT support costs in Cambridge
ACS has three plans, priced per endpoint per month: Core IT $110, Proactive IT $175 and Complete IT $295. Each plan includes everything in the one before it. Practice-software support and vendor coordination start at Proactive IT; compliance and risk management, plus security monitoring by ACS Cyber, our cybersecurity division, are in Complete IT. A Solution Architect confirms your exact per-endpoint price on a free 30-minute call.
Labelled example, plain arithmetic and not a quote: 25 computers at a Cambridge practice on Core IT, at $110 each, come to about $2,750 a month.
| Endpoints | Core IT | Proactive IT | Complete IT |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $1,100 | $1,750 | $2,950 |
| 25 | $2,750 | $4,375 | $7,375 |
| 50 | $5,500 | $8,750 | $14,750 |
Monthly, before add-ons. Prices assume a cloud-first Microsoft 365 and Windows 11 environment; licences, hardware, projects, migrations and onsite visits are billed separately.

Massachusetts law on top of HIPAA
A Cambridge clinic works under HIPAA and under two rules of the Commonwealth.
- HIPAA Security Rule, 45 CFR 164.308: risk analysis and risk management are required (164.308(a)(1)(ii)(A)-(B)), and a vendor handling electronic patient information must give written assurances, in practice a business associate agreement (164.308(b)(1)).
- 201 CMR 17.00: files pairing a resident's name with a Social Security, driver's licence, or financial account or card number call for a written information security program, encryption on portable devices and over public or wireless networks where technically feasible, and oversight of the service providers that can reach them.
- M.G.L. c. 93H, section 3: a practice that owns or licenses breached data notifies the Attorney General, the Director of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation and each affected resident without unreasonable delay; a vendor that only stores or maintains it notifies the practice.
WISP drafting, encryption and vendor oversight are part of how we onboard a Cambridge practice.
Towns we cover around Cambridge
Cambridge, in Middlesex County, borders Somerville, Arlington, Belmont, Watertown and Boston's Allston-Brighton and Charlestown neighbourhoods. Our service area covers each of them, plus Somerville's neighbours Medford and Everett. Multi-site groups get one standard across every location.
For Boston itself, see our Boston healthcare IT providers page; for the rest of the Commonwealth, managed IT services across Massachusetts.
How onsite works from our San Jose HQ
Headquartered in San Jose, we support practices across the Bay Area and serve Greater Boston, New England and Houston remotely, with onsite work as needed. In Cambridge, monitoring, patching and most helpdesk requests run remotely, while hands-on jobs such as a new suite, a front-desk re-cable or a firewall swap are scheduled onsite.
Every practice gets a named Technical Account Manager. Smaller practices share a specialist pod that looks after a handful of clients; larger groups get a dedicated pod.
How to choose an IT provider for a Cambridge practice
- Is a business associate agreement signed before they get a single password? HIPAA expects written assurances from every vendor that touches your electronic patient data.
- Can they show you a sample HIPAA risk analysis and a WISP they wrote? A Massachusetts practice should be able to produce both on request.
- Do they know their duty under c. 93H? A provider storing your data must tell you about a breach; ask how.
- Is pricing per endpoint and published? Then you can budget before the first meeting.
- If you leave, do the admin accounts stay yours? Domains, licences, backups and logins belong to the practice.

Cambridge healthcare IT: questions practice administrators ask
Who provides HIPAA-compliant IT support for medical practices in Cambridge, MA?
Atlantic Computer Systems (ACS), a HIPAA-first healthcare MSP, looks after Cambridge practices from Mount Auburn Street to Kendall Square: remote-first support, onsite visits as needed, a signed BAA and published per-endpoint pricing.
What does a 25-computer Cambridge specialty practice pay for managed IT?
Plain arithmetic, not a quote: twenty-five seats land near $2,750 monthly with Core IT, near $4,375 with Proactive IT and near $7,375 with Complete IT, before licences and hardware (see our managed IT pricing).
Are you local to Cambridge, or is support run from California?
No. Support is run remote-first from ACS headquarters in San Jose, California. Middlesex County practices get remote support day to day, hands-on jobs scheduled onsite as needed and one named Technical Account Manager throughout.
Does 201 CMR 17.00 apply to a small specialty practice in Cambridge?
Yes: the rule has no small-practice exemption. Holding a Massachusetts resident's name beside a Social Security, driver's licence, or financial account or card number triggers it, and the written information security program it demands is sized to your operation.
Will an outside IT company sign a BAA with our Cambridge practice before it touches patient data?
Yes. We sign BAAs with healthcare clients. The signed agreement supplies the satisfactory assurances that 45 CFR 164.308(b)(1) requires before any vendor creates, receives, maintains or transmits your electronic patient information.
Our clinic already pays for charting, imaging and billing software; will you support it?
We support the EHR and practice software you already use. List your systems on the free assessment and we will confirm how each is handled.
Can one IT company cover our sites in Cambridge and Somerville?
Yes. Both sites get the same network standards, sign-ins and security settings, and one Technical Account Manager covers both.
What if our Cambridge clinic loses its network on a Saturday night?
After-hours emergency support is available. Onboarding shows your team how to raise an emergency before one happens.
Keep your Cambridge practice secure and running.
A free 30-minute assessment of your IT, security and HIPAA posture. No obligation.
