Resource / Windows 11 Migration
Windows 10 is end of life. Here is why Windows 11 cannot wait.
Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Every Windows 10 PC you run today no longer gets free security updates, and the risk grows every month. For a medical practice, that is not just an IT problem, it is a compliance and cyber-insurance problem. Here is what it means and how we move you to Windows 11 safely.
Why staying on Windows 10 is a real risk
An unsupported operating system gets more dangerous, and more expensive, the longer you wait.
🔐
No more security patches
New Windows 10 vulnerabilities discovered after October 2025 are not fixed for free. Attackers actively target unpatched systems, and the exposure compounds over time.
📋
Compliance and insurance exposure
The HIPAA Security Rule expects supported, patched systems, and cyber-insurers increasingly refuse coverage or deny claims for breaches involving end-of-life software. Running Windows 10 can put both at risk.
💰
The stopgap gets pricey
Microsoft's paid Extended Security Updates buy time, not a fix, and the price doubles each year. It is cheaper and safer to migrate than to rent security on aging hardware.
What "end of life" actually means
The facts, in plain English.
The deadline
Support ended October 14, 2025
No more free security updates, feature updates, or technical support for Windows 10 from Microsoft.
The stopgap
Extended Security Updates (ESU)
Businesses can buy critical security updates for up to three years (through about October 2028), at roughly $61 per device for year one, $122 for year two, and $244 for year three. Join late and you still pay for the earlier years.
The fix
Windows 11 is the real answer
For eligible PCs, the upgrade to Windows 11 is free and brings stronger built-in security. ESU only delays the inevitable while the meter runs.
Is your hardware ready for Windows 11?
Windows 11 has stricter requirements than Windows 10. Some older machines qualify, some need replacing. We check every device for you.
🔒
TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot
Windows 11 requires a TPM 2.0 security chip and Secure Boot. Many business PCs have these but need them enabled.
🖥
Supported CPU and specs
A compatible 64-bit processor, 4 GB of RAM or more, and 64 GB of storage. Devices that fall short are best replaced on a planned schedule.
How we migrate your practice

Frequently asked questions
Is it still safe to use Windows 10?
It is increasingly unsafe. Since support ended in October 2025, new vulnerabilities are not patched for free, so the risk grows every month. For a practice handling patient data, that is a HIPAA and cyber-insurance concern, not just an IT one.
Can I just buy Extended Security Updates and wait?
ESU is a short-term bridge, not a solution. It only delivers critical security patches, the price doubles each year, and it ends after three years. For most practices, migrating to Windows 11 is cheaper and safer than paying to keep aging machines on life support.
Will my EHR and other software work on Windows 11?
In almost all cases, yes, and we test your EHR and line-of-business applications on Windows 11 before we move you, so there are no surprises on day one.
Do I need to buy all new computers?
Not necessarily. Many recent business PCs are eligible for a free Windows 11 upgrade. We assess each device and only recommend replacing the ones that cannot meet the requirements, on a schedule that fits your budget.
How long does a migration take?
It depends on the size of your fleet. We phase the work to avoid downtime, so your practice keeps running throughout, and most migrations are completed in weeks, not months.
