A smooth IT onboarding sets the tone for a new employee’s entire tenure. At Atlantic Computer Systems, we recommend starting IT setup at least one week before the start date. Submit a new hire request through our Client Portal with the employee’s name, role, department, start date, and any special requirements.
Account Creation & Access
ACS creates: Microsoft 365 account (email, Teams, OneDrive, Office apps), shared drive and SharePoint access, VPN credentials for remote work, and access to line-of-business apps (CRM, EHR, accounting). MFA enrollment is required at first login — see our Cybersecurity Best Practices for why MFA matters.
Device Setup & Configuration
Devices are configured with your standard image: OS, security software, business apps, and company policies. Joined to Azure AD, enrolled in device management, encrypted, and configured with endpoint protection. Our hardware deployment team handles everything. For recommended devices, see our Hardware Guide. Remote employees can have configured devices shipped directly to their home.
First Day IT Checklist
New hires should: log in and set a new password, enroll in MFA (Microsoft Authenticator), verify email in Outlook, join relevant Teams channels, test VPN if remote, confirm shared drive access, review the acceptable use policy, and complete security awareness training.
