Why Hardware Selection Matters for Your Business

Choosing the right hardware is one of the most impactful decisions a business can make when it comes to IT. The wrong laptop or desktop can cost your organization thousands in lost productivity, increased support tickets, and premature replacement cycles. At Atlantic Computer Systems, we deploy and support hundreds of business devices every year, and this guide reflects what we have learned works best across industries including healthcare, legal, finance, and government.

Business Laptops We Recommend

For most business users, we recommend the Dell Latitude 5000 or 7000 series and the Lenovo ThinkPad T or X series. These lines offer enterprise-grade build quality, TPM 2.0 security chips, reliable docking station compatibility, and 3-year ProSupport warranties. For power users in design, engineering, or data analysis, the Dell Precision 3000 series or Lenovo ThinkPad P series provide workstation-class performance with ISV-certified graphics.

We recommend a minimum of 16GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD, and an Intel Core i5 13th generation or newer processor for standard business use. For users running multiple applications simultaneously, 32GB RAM and a 512GB SSD are strongly recommended.

Business Desktops We Recommend

For office environments where portability is not required, the Dell OptiPlex Micro or Small Form Factor series delivers excellent performance in a compact, manageable footprint. The Lenovo ThinkCentre M series is equally reliable. Both platforms support vPro for remote management.

Monitors for Productivity

We recommend 24-inch to 27-inch IPS monitors for most business users. Dell P-series and UltraSharp monitors offer consistent color accuracy, USB-C connectivity for single-cable laptop docking, and adjustable stands. For users who work extensively with spreadsheets or code, an ultrawide 34-inch curved monitor can replace a dual-monitor setup.

Essential Peripherals

We recommend the Logitech MX Keys keyboard and MX Master 3 mouse for ergonomic design and multi-device Bluetooth support. For video conferencing, the Jabra Speak2 75 speakerphone or Poly Voyager headset series deliver professional audio quality. For webcams, the Logitech Brio 300 or 500 series provides 1080p video.

Hardware Lifecycle and Replacement

We recommend a 4-year hardware lifecycle for business laptops and desktops. After 4 years, failure rates increase significantly and maintenance costs exceed replacement costs. ACS can manage your entire hardware lifecycle from procurement to secure end-of-life data destruction.
